During the 17th and 18th century the Dutch fleet sailed to distant destinations to trade and to bring home exotic spices, silk and other treasures. In Holland we call this period the ‘Golden Age’. It was a time of wealth and luxury. In Amsterdam, along its famous canals, rich merchants built beautiful homes, their facades often elaborately decorated. Inside impressive stairways would lead to the many rooms upstairs. It is from the balustrades of these staircases that our lamps originate. We have taken the original elements and turned them into stylish cast-iron lamps. The name of our lamp line is Hortus, each model we named after a plant, because of their resemblance to the famous Dutch flowers. «
